The last thing my partner and I expected when we recently visited Ross-On-Wye, was to end up behind the bar of The Crown & Sceptre. We had heard that the pub had recently reopened under new management, so we decided to pay it a visit.
The Crown & Sceptre is an attractive pub in the centre of Ross On Wye, I had previously visited it, when it was a sports bar. It was taken over last year, by the couple who ran The Tap House in Millpond Street. Unfortunately the Tap House has been closed for quite a while, because of flood damage. I can totally understand the anguish and upheaval this has caused, having experienced a similar event myself. But the good news is that The Tap House is due to reopen in Spring 2025, possibly under a new name.
Whilst we were in the Crown & Sceptre, we got chatting to the landlord. He talked about the various plans they have for the pub, and for The Tap House, which will be a cider orientated establishment. Those who prefer real ale, will have plenty to choose from at The Crown & Sceptre, the row of hand pumps are certainly impressive. I asked the landlord if I could photograph the pumps, he was happy to oblige. To my surprise, the landlord asked if he could photograph my partner and I behind the bar, we happily obliged. Modesty prevents me from publishing the photo!
It is certainly reassuring to know, that the Crown & Sceptre is in safe hands.
